About Surah Al-Masad

Al-Masad (also Al-Lahab), “The Palm Fibre,” describes the ruin of Abu Lahab, who opposed the Prophet ﷺ, as a lasting lesson that wealth and status cannot avail against Allah.

۞

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

  1. 1 Al-Masad 111:1

    بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ تَبَّتْ يَدَآ أَبِى لَهَبٍۢ وَتَبَّ

    Tab bat yadaa abee Lahabinw-wa tabb

    May the hands of Abu Lahab be ruined, and ruined is he.

  2. 2 Al-Masad 111:2

    مَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُ مَالُهُۥ وَمَا كَسَبَ

    Maa aghna 'anhu maaluhu wa ma kasab

    His wealth will not avail him or that which he gained.

  3. 3 Al-Masad 111:3

    سَيَصْلَىٰ نَارًۭا ذَاتَ لَهَبٍۢ

    Sa yas laa naran zaata lahab

    He will [enter to] burn in a Fire of [blazing] flame

  4. 4 Al-Masad 111:4

    وَٱمْرَأَتُهُۥ حَمَّالَةَ ٱلْحَطَبِ

    Wam ra-atuh hamma latal-hatab

    And his wife [as well] - the carrier of firewood.

  5. 5 Al-Masad 111:5

    فِى جِيدِهَا حَبْلٌۭ مِّن مَّسَدٍۭ

    Fee jeediha hab lum mim-masad

    Around her neck is a rope of [twisted] fiber.
